Il Bosco delle Meraviglie

Stiamo entrando nel Bosco delle Meraviglie - Sant'Ambrogio di Torino - Torino - Piemonte - Italia

Era da parecchio tempo che sentivo parlare del Bosco delle Meraviglie che si trova a Sant'Ambrogio di Torino. 

Dopo alcune ricerche su internet ho trovato il contatto di Mauro e Fabio, i creatori  di questo parco emozionale che si trova in Val di Susa, a circa 30 km da Torino.

Ho telefonato e ho cercato di avere alcune informazioni per poi organizzare una visita e addentrarmi in questo regno fatato.

La prima cosa che ho notato, ancora prima di fare l'escursione, è  stato l'enorme entusiasmo con cui veniva descritta la loro attività.

Finalmente, dopo tante informazioni, ad agosto sono riuscita a visitare questo magnifico bosco e perché no, a tornare anche un po' bambina.

Il punto di partenza è la bottega di giocattoli, che Mauro e Fabio hanno al centro del paese.

C'erano tantissimi giochi vecchio stile, i classici giochi di società e altri ancora che intrattengono molto i bambini se noi adulti abbiamo tempo e pazienza per giocare con loro.

L 'escursione è iniziata alle 14:30. Mi accoglie Mauro, persona gentile e come detto precedentemente, molto solare ed entusiasta.
Dopo aver preso il biglietto ci indica il punto di partenza da dove parte l'avventura, ovvero la chiesa di Sant'Ambrogio.

In totale eravamo circa 30 persone tra adulti e bambini.
Davanti al sagrato della chiesa ci aspetta Prugna, il cantastorie, colui che ci accompagnerà in questa magnifica avventura.
La storia s'intitola "La Maledizione dell'Orco".

Prugna distribuisce alcuni oggetti ai partecipanti, oggetti che ci serviranno nel bosco: occhiali speciali, alcuni cappellini per i più piccoli, due ceste per raccogliere le uova che serviranno a fare la magia.
Prima di addentrarci nel bosco, il cantastorie ci spiega che ognuno avrà un ruolo e che dobbiamo essere una squadra se vogliamo sconfiggere l'orco e tornare a casa sani e salvi.

Bene... si parte! Dalla chiesa saliamo verso la montagna, direzione Sacra di San Michele, il conosciutissimo monumento, simbolo della  Regione Piemonte. La strada è ripida per una decina di minuti, poi ad un certo punto svoltiamo a destra e ci addentriamo nel "Bosco delle Meraviglie".

Appena entrati nel bosco, ci troviamo in uno spazio verde del tutto pianeggiante perciò  adatto anche ai bimbi più piccoli, dove incontriamo due personaggi: la gnometta Viola e il troll Crosta che a causa di un incantesimo hanno perso la voce e cercano di farsi capire mimando la situazione. Presto ci sarà il loro matrimonio e gli abitanti del bosco dovranno aiutarli a spezzare quest'incantesimo per realizzare il loro sogno. Ce la faranno? Noi tutti siamo pronti ad aiutarli e a cercare di sconfiggere il terribile orco.

Di più non vi posso raccontare... dovete venire e sperimentare le varie avventure che, a seconda dei periodi, i creatori del Bosco delle Meraviglie ci proporranno.

Se venite in Val di Susa e siete adulti o bambini dovete addentrarvi  nelle storie fantastiche raccontate in quest'oasi di verde a pochi km dalla Sacra di San Michele.

Il Bosco delle Meraviglie (The Wonder Wood) - The emotional theme park in the Susa Valley 

I heard a lot about this theme park. I was curious, that after much internet research I got Mauro contact details and I called him for information. The inventors of this "emotional" park are Mauro and Fabio.

In August I had the opportunity to visit it. The meeting point was a toy shop in Sant'Ambrogio di Torino, a town located around 30 km from Turin. The first person I met was Mauro, a very enthusiastic and open-minded man who told me how they managed to create this park.


He told me that it was not easy at the beginning as it was a new enterprise for  the Susa Valley. The forest belongs to different private owners and they had to ask permission to clear it and use it for their project. They had also find a place for a ticket office, and that's why they opened the toy shop. It is full of old-style society games and much more. It is very nice to go around and looking for the best thing to buy, but it is difficult as there is so much to choose from.

Close to the toy shop, there is the church where our adventure began. The character Prugna, our storyteller, was waiting for us in front of the church. He was our guide through this wonderful wood.

The adventure's name is "The Ogre's Curse".

There were about 30 people including adults and children on the adventure. Before starting our excursion Prugna gave us instructions to go into the wood.
He gave us some items we needed to live this adventure: special glasses, special hats for leprechauns and two big baskets to collect the eggs and make the magic.
Most important, we had to be an united team to fight and conquer the ogre.

Then we were ready to go up to the "Bosco della Meraviglie".  We walked up to the mountain for about ten minutes, in the direction of the Sacra di San Michele, the famous sanctuary that is the symbol of Piedmont. After this short walk we arrived at the wood where we met the first characters, the elf girl Viola and the troll boy Crosta.

They tried to mime the situation because they lost their voices due to a spell of the evil ogre. They wanted to get married, but they couldn't unless we helped them.
How could we do? We had to be united and fight the ogre to come back home safe and sound.

I won't say any more. It was a fantastic experience. I felt I was a child again. You have to come and experience this amazing fairytale.

If you visit the Susa Valley you definitely have to experience the "Bosco della Meraviglie". Book it in advance as it is always sold out.

Lemons from Sicily

What do you do with lemons? Actually, you can do many things. It was my experiment.

A friend brought me lemons bought in Sicily. 

I peeled the lemons and used the lemon peels to prepare Limoncello, a lemon liqueur from Southern Italy.

I squeezed the lemons to get the juice, then cut the lemons and made Lemon jam from them.

Finally I used the jam to make a cake.

You see, you can use every part of the lemon to make so many things, without any food waste and everything made with lemons is delicious!

Homemade Lemon Jam recipe:

Ingredients: 1 kg (about 2,20 lbs) lemons and 7 hg (about 1,54 lbs) sugar.

Use organic lemons only.

- Wash the peeled lemons.

- Cut the lemons into slices, remove seeds and the top "button".

- Put the lemon slices in a bowl covered with water and leave them there for about 24 hours.

- Throw the water away, put fresh water and leave them for another day.

- Put the lemon slices in a saucepan, add sugar and cook for about  one hour.

- If the slices are not soft enough, cook them for more time.

- Put the hot jam into jars.

Limoni siciliani, che bontà!

Degli amici che sono tornati dalla Sicilia mi hanno portato dei profumatissimi limoni che ho utilizzato per fare varie cose.

Ho sbucciato i limoni e con le scorze ho preparato il Limoncello.

Per non sprecare i limoni ne ho spremuti alcuni e ho conservato il succo di limone nel freezer.

Ho tagliato la parte restante di polpa, ho aggiunto il succo di limone, poi ho messo il tutto in una boule e l'ho coperto con l'acqua per circa 24 ore.

Dopo un giorno ho buttato via l'acqua depositata nella boule e ho coperto di nuovo con dell'acqua la polpa del limone per altre 24 ore.

Il giorno dopo ho messo la polpa, parte del succo e dello zucchero in una pentola; ho fatto cuocere il tutto per circa un'ora, poi ho messo la marmellata nei barattoli.

Con quella marmellata ho fatto una torta.

Sono proprio  contenta di aver utilizzato quasi ogni parte di questi profumatissimi limoni siciliani.

La Calcina - Le erbe officinali di Chiara

Nel mese di maggio ho avuto la possibilità di visitare l'azienda agricola “La Calcina” di Chiara.

Mi aveva molto incuriosita sapere il motivo per cui aveva deciso di vivere in quella borgata sopra la montagna di Condove dove lei e la sua famiglia devono fare un tratto di strada a piedi per arrivarci.

Ho camminato per circa dieci minuti lungo la mulattiera che mi ha condotto verso il piccolo borgo; alla fine della stradina mi è apparso quel piccolo gruppo di case dove lei abita con suo marito e i suoi bambini.

Appena arrivata l'ho trovata intenta a piantare dei semi di calendula, una delle tante erbe che coltiva.

Mi ha raccontato che lei e suo marito hanno trovato quel luogo tramite un annuncio su internet di quell'immobile, che poi è diventato la loro casa, Era proprio quello che cercavano e così hanno deciso di acquistarla nel 2015.

Nel 2016 hanno iniziato a fare i primi lavori di ristrutturazione  e nello stesso anno si sono trasferiti. Le loro origini non sono valsusine. Chiara è del Roero e il marito viene dal Canavese.

Un'altra curiosità era come aveva pensato di coltivare le erbe officinali e mi ha risposto dicendomi che la voglia di stare a contatto con la natura le ha fatto prendere questa decisione. Ha fatto un corso sulle erbe officinali a Roma e poi ha iniziato a seminare i suoi campi.

Nei suoi campi vi sono diversi tipi di erbe quali melissa, menta piperita, calendula, timo, lavanda, santoreggia, echinacea, camomilla, origano,basilico, prezzemolo, escorzia e tante altre.

Ho incontrato una ragazza molto gentile e disponibile che riesce a trasmettere quella grande passione che ha per la natura e per un lavoro bello, ma sicuramente molto impegnativo.

Vista la grande richiesta dei suoi prodotti ha dovuto aumentare il numero dei campi da coltivare.

Dalla raccolta delle sue innumerevoli e profumatissime erbe Chiara prepara differenti tipi di infusi e tisane che ho provato e che vi consiglio di acquistare.

Qualora veniate a visitare la Val di Susa, dovete assolutamente salire sulla montagna di Condove e addentrarvi in quest'oasi nel verde dove vivono Chiara e la sua famiglia.

Chiara and Her Culinary Herbs

In May I had the opportunity to visit Chiara's farm and farmhouse. I learned of her from a local newspaper. She lives in the hamlet of La Calcina in the municipality of Condove, about 30 km from Turin.

I decided to visit as I was very curious to know Chiara's reason for living in such a small hamlet on the mountain. She told me that she and her husband were looking for a place like this for such a long time. They did a lot of internet research and found this place. It is made up of three houses and a court.

You walk through the forest on a mule track for about 10 minutes before arriving at Chiara's house, which has a simple appearance like an old rural building. She explained to me that they were looking for a place like this, but with a comfortable road to drive in. They bought the house in 2015 and after some renovation in 2016, they moved there. She said the place is perfect except for the road, but they love living there anyway. 

After they moved, she had to decide what to do in this place. It is surrounded by nature and she loves it. She could grow fruits and vegetables, but she decided to grow culinary herbs instead. She attended a course in Rome to learn how to do it, and then began to cultivate organic herbs.

When I arrived she was putting calendula seeds in the soil. The fields were filled with herbs she planted some months ago. They were blossoming and colourful.

The herbs she grows are: lemon balm, calendula, peppermint, sage, thyme, lavender, echinacea, basil, parsley, oregano, chamomile, winter savory and many more. From the herbs, she produces herbal teas and infusions. They are high quality and genuine and I highly recommend them.
