Nel mese di febbraio
lavoravo a Bardonecchia e ho colto l'opportunità per visitare
Salbertrand in quanto questi due paesi distano meno di 20 km l'una
dall'altro.
Salbertrand si trova
a circa 80 km da Torino e 35 dal confine francese ed è possibile
raggiungerlo in macchina, ma anche comodamente in treno.
Quando sono arrivata
ho camminato dalla stazione ferroviaria verso il centro, molto
ordinato e pulito.
All'ingresso del
borgo ho trovato la chiesa parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista di
iniziale stile romanico, poi mutato nei secoli successivi in stile
gotico. Una delle chiese artisticamente più ricche dell'alta Valle
di Susa.
Continuando a
seguire la strada che conduce al suo interno mi sono imbattuta
nell'Hotel Dieu, un edificio di epoca medioevale che serviva da
alloggio per i pellegrini che percorrevano la Via Francigena.
Addentrandomi nel
borgo ho incontrato due persone molto gentili con cui ho parlato,
che mi hanno raccontato del luogo e dato indicazioni per arrivare al
“Parco Naturale del Gran Bosco di Salbertrand”, il motivo principale
di questa escursione.
Il parco è stato
istituito nel 1980 e si estende per circa 3775 ettari. E' stato creato per proteggere la foresta di abeti bianchi e rossi, unica in Piemonte. Un'oasi
naturale che ospita più di 600 esemplari di vegetali quali: frassini,
betulle, faggi, abeti bianchi e rossi e mammiferi quali:
lepri, scoiattoli, volpi, camosci, cinghiali solo per citarne alcuni.
Se visitate la Valle
di Susa e siete amanti della natura questo è un luogo che dovete
assolutamente visitare.

Salbertrand and the Nature Park of Gran Bosco
In February I was working in Bardonecchia and I decided to visit Salbertrand as these two villages are located about 20 km away from each other.
Salbertrand is situated about 80 km from Turin and 35 from the French border. It is possible to reach it by car, but also by train.
When I arrived I walked from the railway station to the village centre; it was very tidy and clean.
At the entrance of the village there is the parish church of Saint John the Baptist - the building shows two different styles, first it was Romanesque and then changed to Gothic in the following centuries. One of the artistically richest churches in the upper Susa Valley.
Going along the road that leads into the village, I came across the Hotel Dieu, a medieval building that served as accommodation for pilgrims who walked the Via Francigena.
Entering the village I met two very kind people with whom I spoke, who told me about the village and gave me directions to get to the "Nature Park of Gran Bosco in Salbertrand ", the main reason for my excursion.
The park was established in 1980 by the Piedmont region and covers approximately 3775 hectares. It was created to protect the white and red fir forest, unique in the Piedmont region. A natural oasis that houses more than 600 specimens of plants such as: ash, birch, beech, white and red fir trees and wild animals such as: hares, squirrels, foxes, wild antelope-goats and wild boars, just to mention a few.
