What a strange adventure!

Roure - Torino - Piemonte - Italia
Roure  - Turin  - Piedmont - Italy

On January 31st I  had to travel to a business meeting. I knew the weather was not that good, but when  I woke up  I couldn't believe there was so much snow. I intended to drive to this village called Roure (about 80 km from Turin), but it was too dangerous.

Thanks to my smartphone I was able to get some information about the public transportation and I decided  to start my journey.

At 6:30 a.m. I took a train from S.Antonino di Susa (about 35 km from  Turin). Unfortunately the train was delayed 30 minutes. I ran to catch a bus to Pinerolo (about 60 km from Turin) and Perosa Argentina (about 80 km from Turin) then I changed another bus to arrive in Roure. It has never stopped snowing during this  three-hour journey. The panorama from the windows was fantastic. There was about 20 cm of snow and, I was not sure I would ever arrive in Roure due to  this bad weather.

Finally I arrived there.  I had about a 30-minute meeting.
When I left for the retourn journey, it kept on snowing. I  missed a bus and I had to wait about 30 minutes outside. I looked like a "snowwoman".
I had to decide which was the best way to go back home.

In the end,  I caught a bus to go up to the mountain from one side and down from the other side. With that bad weather it was a difficult decision. I travelled from Roure (about 860 metres high) through  Fenestrelle (about 1145 metres high), Pragelato (about 1500 metres high), Sestriere  (about 2000 metres high), then down to Cesana Torinese (about 1350 metres high). Finally I arrived in Oulx ( about 1100 metres high) at about 1:30 p.m.

I had a quick lunch (a warm soup and a stew) in a restaurant close to the railway station before catching the last train home,  but it turned to be  a bus because there was too much snow to travel by train.
At about 4:00 p.m. I was back home.

The Bagna Cauda

Recently it has been cold and snowy in the  Susa Valley. The roofs were covered with snow. The panorama was magic.
When it is so cold outside it is so nice to be home and to  spend time cooking.
A perfect recipe for winter is the Bagna  Cauda.

It is a very old recipe from Piedmont and it is also made in the area I live.
It is a sauce made with oil, garlic and anchovies and is eaten with raw and cooked vegetables like potatoes, cauliflowers, fennel, celery, cabbage and much more.

The person who usually prepares this yummy dish is my mother.
When my friends know that she will prepare this sauce they always ask me if they can come for dinner.
She cooks it on a wood burning stove. She stirs the sauce for about one hour and serves in warm bowls.
I want to thank you mum for cooking the Bagna Cauda for us. You are fantastic!

Beautiful Liguria!

In this cold winter it is so nice to spend some days in a warmer place. Some friends invited me to stay with them in Santa Margherita Ligure, nice town located in the Riviera at about 30 km from Genoa and a few km from the beautiful fishing village Portofino.

Ben arrivato 2019!

Attendo i vostri commenti.

Welcome 2019!

I wish you a wonderful New Year!

Another year has just began. The time is running fast... too fast for me.
I would like to live a simpler life, to appreciate the little things and spend more time with family and the people I love.
I hope I can do it soon.

On 1st January 2019 I was in Susa.
Susa is  a town located at about 50 km between Turin and the French border.
It is one of the most important of the Susa Valley. The name of the valley comes from this town.

As you walk along Via Roma, one of the main roads, it is so common to hear French people speaking. They come very often on Tuesday when there is the outdoor market.

There are so many sightseeing spots in Susa like the Roman Amphitheatre, the Castle of  the Countess Adelaide, the Museum of Sacred Art, the Cathedral of Saint Justus and much more.

I cannot reveal to you everything... you have to visit Susa and let me know.

If you need more information about the Susa Valley don't hesitate to contact me.
I wait for your comments.
